    Ad-Dukhan, Ayah 54

Is white a preferred color then?

    Kindly provide some guidance

    JazakAllah

Why is white colour clothes is called the Libaas of taqwa despite other colour being mentioned in ahadith. Now when allah judges a person according to taqwa then is this colour a sign of taqwa ?

I understand that these hadith are not independent source of deen and it is etiquette of dressing in our deen, but just curious to understand the farahi school stance about white colour.

Colours have no religious significance in isolation. Since we humans tend to give colours certain meanings like white is considered for simplicity and sometimes to represent light or brightness, black for sadness how people in general wear it during funerals or sometimes to represent darkness and similarly some other colours like green is considered refreshing. Quran and Ahadith have used those colours in the same context as used by people in general linguistically. For example, green colour is mentioned in Quran for dwellers of Jannah (Quran 18:31), mountains of red and white colours are specifically mentioned in Quran 35:27, Eyes of evil-doers would be blue when they will wake up on the day of judgement because of fear (Quran 20:102), People whose faces will be looking dull (black) because of their loss on the day of judgement and people whose faces will be looking bright (light) when they will be declared successful on the day of judgement (Quran 3:106-107). All these colours are used in the same sense as we use in a normal linguistic sence, this does not make any one colour more superior to the other in a religious sense.

There are some ahadith where Green colour is said to be the most liked colour by Prohet Muhammad (sws) and in some Prophet (sws) encouraged White. But He (sws) was seen in different colours on different occasions including black, green, red and white. Had white been the only Libas of Taqwa then why would Prophet Muhammad (sws) ever wear any colour other than white. Truth is that these are exaggerations in religion because colours have no religious significance in isolation.

    Adding further to the question-

Dr Khalid Zaheer Sir mentioned that all ahadith should be understood as a footnote of the quran, such kind of ahadith about white coloured clothes comes under which quranic verse
