Ghamidi Sahab says (and according to reports) the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم asked the Ansar to allow someone from Quresh to take up the reigns after him. Then why did the Ansar discuss the issue of succession after the Prophet’s death? What is the reality of the event of Saqifa Bani Saa’ida? They wanted to rule according to the reports, no? Did they ignore the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم advice معاذ الله? How do you reconcile the reports?

It doesn’t matter how many people knew about this, because the demise of Prophet (SWS) itself was a big event resulting in disruption and choas among muslims in addition to emotional turmoil. And when emotions are this high, people can easily forget things. But as soon as they were properly reminded of this fact through AbuBakar (rta), no one hesitated for a single moment to accept him as their caliph. I think It has to do more with human psychology than any ill-intent on anyone’s part.
