  • What Is The Significance Of Zikar (Dhikar)

Posted by Sarim Rehan on October 3, 2021 at 3:04 pm

We know through the references of certain Hadith that Prophet Mohammed PBUH has said on certain occasion that who ever make certain Dhikr for certain time, he will be “Forgive sins even if they were as much as foam of sea” or “His sins will fall off like leaves of trees” or “Jannah will ask god to enter him in it” or “Jahannum will ask god to protect him from it”. I wanted to ask what is the significance of these Dhikrs, we know that it isn’t like Prophet Mohammed PBUH over exaggerated and we also believe that he only says the truth. So is the person who say these certain Dhikr, actually going to get what he is told, regardless of how punctual he is or is not in his ritual duties and how unabstaining he is from the prohibited?

    Thank You.

All such narrations which appear to give sweeping statements based on isolated actions always have implied qualification as put in by Quran and Sunnah. Such Ahadith (Akhbar-i-Ahad) usually relate to application and their content and intensity may had varied from situation to situation and from person to person, as deemd fit by the Prophet (sws) in the specific situation. For example, when He wanted someone to be encouraged to do Zikar, He must’ve given isolated gladtidings, while knowing that the same person was very punctual w.r.t other obligatory rituals of religion and hence there was no need to mention such other compulsory requirements.

In conclusion, such Ahadith are always subject to the basic obligatory requirements of Islam (as mentioned in Quran and Sunnah) and therefore, should not be seen in isolation.
