What Existed Before This Universe
Does Quran, Hadith and previous Islamic Holy Books mention anything about things that existed before this universe came? I came to know there existed water. The main question is, has this universe came out of nothing or something or we don’t know about it?

What is the context of the verses 7 of 11th Chapter of Quran. In the bible (book of genesis) it says about the spirit of God hovering over water. Please guide further.

Ghamidi sb writes in his tafsir following for vere 7 of chapter 11.
یعنی اِس سے پہلے یہ کرۂ ارض پانی ہی پانی تھا اور خدا کی حکومت بھی اِسی پانی پر قائم تھی۔ زمانۂ رسالت میں لوگ قرآن کے اِس بیان پر اظہار تعجب کر سکتے تھے، مگر دور حاضر کی تحقیقات نے ثابت کردیا ہے کہ دنیا کے بارے میں یہی حقیقت ہے جو قرآن نے صدیوں پہلے بیان کر دی تھی۔
Also, Molana Ahsan sb has has written following in his work
’وَکَانَ عَرْشُہٗ عَلَی الْمَآءِ‘۔ ’عرش‘ خدا کی حکومت کی تعبیر ہے۔ مطلب یہ ہے کہ اس کرۂ ارض کی خشکی نمودار ہونے سے پہلے پہلے یہ سارا کرہ مائی تھا اور اللہ کی حکومت اس پر تھی۔ پھر پانی سے خشکی نمودار ہوئی اور زندگی کی مختلف النوع انواع ظہور میں آئیں اور درجہ بدرجہ یہ پورا عالم ہستی آباد ہوا۔ یہی بات تورات میں بھی بیان ہوئی ہے اگرچہ اس کے مترجموں نے مطلب خبط کر دیا ہے۔ کتاب پیدائش کی پہلی ہی آیت میں یہ الفاظ ہیں:
’’اور گہراؤ کے اوپر اندھیرا اور خدا کی روح پانی کی سطح پر جنبش کرتی تھی۔‘‘

Religion has a very specific domain and it only discusses matters within that domain. What existed before this universe is neither a topic of that domain, nor as human beings we have the capability to comprehend anything outside of the spacetime continuum of this universe.
