This phrase is oftne used in explaining the transfer of the sunnah. Could a list be provided of which usuliyyun are commonly consulted for their ijma? Or which books as well.

The best I could see so far is the series of articles written by Dr Ammar Khan Nasir, titled, Quran o Sunnat ka Bahami Taluk, in which he discusses the work and differences of eminent Usooliyyeen.

So why hasn’t Ghamidi sahab published any of his works? How can he just make claims that there is ijma on his sunan that he has written about with no evidence?

Ijma on the Sunan he listed is evident. need not to prove.

The whole point of his that I have understood is we need to make sure that the ijma and tawatur was actually present at the times of past. For example how would we know whether in the past they did 5 salah or not or if there was any ikhitilaaf on this matter that was silenced?

the knowledge of Ijam and Tawatur is the the present Ijma and Tawatur. absence of any disagreement confirms that there were no disagreement on it, or else, Ijma was not possible once there is difference.

One could kill all those that disagree with them and then the ijma of their opinion would be solidified or they could die out etc

This incident should be reported then.

Why? Why can it not be lost to history?

And how would we know that it has been reported without checking books which was my original question?

Speculations have nothing to do with reality.

We bother only when something is reported. No such report is there.

It’s not speculation . You are assuming all events that occurred were recorded and have reached us

I appreciate you asking this crucial question. And also Mr. Shahzad for his deep knowledge on this matter.

Don’t you think it is a wild speculation for which there is no reason asking and even arising in the first place? — maybe examples are what make speculations worthwhile considering. Maybe even the idea of hypotheses have a rule to them then.

Would you be in a position to provide an example where an event occurred in history and was misrepresented in such a way thay only the misrepresention prevailed without any continued difference in the train of history?

Can it happen maybe, maybe not.

we supposed to think like that? There’s no reason to, so no we wont.

I can give you many examples actually.

Christianity is the biggest example itself.

      Judaism too.

One could argue for Hinduism perhaps also.

The Mandela effect may be of importance here also

These examples dont apply because these are reported (by Quran), and differences are continued to date. People still argue to date whether Christianity is a misrepresentation of true religion or not. The argument is there, and they are based on rationales. Even if the differences are cleared out, history will remember something like this happened, just because it is a matter of masses now, not just a separate branch of knowledge succession.

But is there an argument in the terms there were 3 obligatory namaz versus the 5 obligatory namaz that we follow today?

The history of misconception of Christianity is well known. The crucifixion of Jesus is reported by some spectators, and the doctrine of trinity and redemption is expounded by St Paul. They do have the claim of Ijma on them in the very beginning. Ijma is needs to be Ijma on the very first stage.
