When does one know if they are being tested or if there is punishment?

To my knowledge, we are all being tested now as there is no living prophet amongst us. In the past whole communities were punished as a group when a living prophet was rejected by the community directly after a long period of invitation by the prophet.

We don’t know and we cannot know
Besides everything in life is test. It could be good times or bad times. All are tests. So, in my opinion, it’s fruitless to try to label any situation as a test or punishment because we can’t know for sure and secondly it doesn’t change our action
If it’s good time, be grateful and share your blessings with others
If it’s bad times, ask for forgiveness and do charity by money and actions
It’s that simple for me
