    Salam,

Do we have to pay zakat on pension?

I have seen a question and reply from Umer with Ghamidi Sahab’s video and understand it is not payable on pension.

I have a follow up question in situations where an employee can also make voluntary contributions to the pension fund. This will go in the same pension fund and not payable until statutory retirement age but there is an element of personal savings in this situation?

    Regards,

    Muzammil

I’m not sure which response you’re referring to, but apparently there’s some confusion.

Pension is subjected to 10% production zakat, however, it only becomes due when you receive the pension. Employee or employer contribution is irrelevant. As you withdraw pension, you’re liable for 10% zakat on each withdrawal.
