To feel proud of one self in doing something good is very natural to human beings. As long as this feeling is kept in check and not allowed to turn into ego or arrogance, there’s no problem with that.

Secondly, what must be kept in mind is that when we do something good for a friend or a family member, we should be thankful to God that He allowed us to be on the giving end and not on the receiving end.

Lastly, we must understand that by giving to our relatives or friends in need, we’re fulfilling our duty towards God, and not towards them. How they behave with us should ideally have no bearing on our own good deeds. God has established and prioritized the right of those who are close to us in our wealth. With that, our reward is with God, and we should not expect anything in return for any favors from any human beings.
