I join the prayer congregation when the imam is in the middle of Fatiha; he has recited some of the verses already. In this scenario, what among these choices should I make:

    1) do not recite the verses which the imam has already recited and complete my prayer just as.

    2) recite the skipped verses of Fatiha first and then listen to the rest.

I think that in the first choice, I cannot claim to have recited or heard Fatiha so my prayer could be void as per a hadith. And in the second, as I recite the skipped verses, I do not listen to the recitation of Quran which comes under violation of the rule mentioned in Quran that we should listen when Quran is being recited. Please help me out. Thank you!

In congregational prayer, following the imam is important. one should not recite Fatiah when imam is reciting in loud (jehri prayer) but if the prayer is no loud, (sirri) one should recite fatiha. if you miss a portion of fatiha, it does not matter. you need to follow the imam.
