There should be no doubt in that this universe has a creator. From the design and the functional purpose that’s evident in every subatomic particle of this universe, to the harmony of all systems that flawlessly operate in order to support life on our planet, to laws of nature, to mathematical precision of all physical constants, to fascinating aesthetics of every object in the cosmos – everything points to an intelligent mind and an extremely capable entity behind this universe. Just like in science we draw logical inferences from observing matter, God is scientifically established beyond any reasonable doubt by drawing necessary logical inferences from observing this universe as a whole. Assuming such a highly functional universe without an intelligent mind is counter to reason because there’s nothing uncreated out there in our observation that’s so profoundly functional.

Let alone any plausible explanation, there’s absolutely no other explanation for the origins of this universe. If you dig just a bit deep and ask the right questions, all other scientific or philosophical explanations are incomplete without a creator.

The question that how do we know whether the creator of this universe is actually God is not valid. God is just a term in English that we use to refer to the creator of this universe. In Arabic that term is Allah, and similarly in other languages there are other terms to refer to that same entity.

By ‘God’, I meant the creator that religion (Islam) presents us. It is also possible that this Universe is just a simulation being run by other intelligences, what reasons do we have to establish that it is the doing of the creator that religion presents us? And of not some other entity, who is not God?

Knowledge is not based upon speculations or hypothetical ideas. Instead knowledge is what establishes itself beyond any reasonable doubt based upon evidence.

Given the data (information) at any point in time, knowledge is the ‘necessary‘ logical conclusion from it. If the data changes at a later time, so can knowledge, and so can our conclusions about God.

With the limitations of human intellect, it’s not possible or even necessary to have absolute knowledge. What’s important is our ‘attitude‘ towards knowledge. Once something is established as knowledge, it becomes incumbent upon an intellectually honest person to accept it (beliefs and actions) regardless of their biases, prejudices, preferences, etc. If it changes at a later point in time, so should our beliefs and actions. This is exactly how science functions as well in accepting the most plausible explanation of numerous phenomena. To wait for something to become knowledge with absolute certainty is not only unrealistic and unscientific but is essentially ignorant.

Whether or not the viewpoint about God presented by Islam is the correct viewpoint is secondary in nature. It too must be established on the basis of knowledge and it very much does if you read the Quran. It’s not possible for me to analyze every other viewpoint about God here, but if you find any other plausible viewpoint about God please feel free to create a new post on Ask Ghamidi and we can discuss it further.
