    Asalmoalikum,

If a muslim is interested in pursuing US Law Enforcement careerWhat does Islam have to say about modern day American law enforcement and the duties they have to carry out ie taking away someone’s freedom , separating people from families and possibly taking someone’s life in defense of yourself or someone else ?

As long as any of these things are done with morality and justice, Islam doesn’t have any issues with them. In fact law enforcement is an institution of الأمر بالمَعْرُوف والنَهي عن المُنْكَر (doing good and forbidding evil) which is a duty imposed by God. As long this duty is performed within one’s domain while upholding morality and justice, working for law enforcement is a very virtuous profession.
