My understanding of religion and particularly Islam is that its all about the creator. The main message is to accept Allah and spend our life according to His teachings. Prophets were also sent to remind people and renew the actual message. But it looks like the religion has become more about the Prophets and his followers (all the Human figures) rather than the God himself. E.g. whenever we say say Muhammad its mandatory to say SAW but when it comes to Allah there is no such protocol. Also mostly discussions in religious circles are about the Prophet SAW and Sahaba and other historical events. There isn’t much discussion about Allah.

My Question is, is this type of behaviour right according to Islam? Do we give more importance to Prophet and other people than we need to ? Please clarify

Your perception is not entirely wrong. Muslims have given a portion of centrality and reverence due to God, to the prophet and some other personalities. On the other hand when we read Quran we find it is all about Allah and the rest are His servants who are fulfilling His scheme. All are means to recognise and worship Allah and earn His pleasure.
