    Asalamualaikum,

It is clear that suicide is something Haram in Islam as it is the killing of a Nafs (The Self).

Would it be permissible to, if a way is found out, induce yourself into a coma that would lead the person to be unconscious, provided the intention of inducing death is absent?

    JazakAllah,

    Salaam

If I were to gather a short and general list of hypothetical circumstances one may encounter, when would it be most feasible, if at all?

1- In the case when one has mental disorders (such as chronic depression), no will to live and to choose the above-mentioned case rather than suicide. Or if the person is suffering from any other incurable disease with no hope of recovery, making living painful and miserable.

2- In light of some immediate catastrophe where it may seem more practical to remove yourself from a situation in that way rather than continue living. Where one is tested to a degree they can no longer bear, coupled with the fact they do not want to commit suicide.

      JazakAllah for your time!

These don’t seem to be valid conditions. If it’s advised by an expert such as a doctor or a psychiatrist due to some medical conditions then it can become permissible.

The entire point in Islam is that we go through the test of this life in order to get selected for the rewards in the hereafter. In the situations that you described above, one should instead seek help from God, doctors, as well as that from their friends and family. They should then do whatever is under their control and have faith in God that their situation shall improve with time.
