Ghamidi sahib did not count it in his list of Sunnah. Although this was practised but was not elevated to the status of Sunnah.

Prophet Muhammad (sws) disliked the custom associated with Aqiqa (an animal was sacrificed and its blood poured upon the child’s head, after which, the child’s head was shaved) but allowed people to perform ibadah of animal sacrifice as a token of gratitude towards Allah.
