  • Questions Regarding Nail Polish And Ghusl

Posted by Fahad Nawaz on September 11, 2022 at 1:00 am

    Assalamoalaikum,

Javaid Sahab explained his point of view regarding nail polish which is as per my understanding is “do wadoo before applying nail polish then apply nail polish, now once nail polish is applied a masaa over nail polish is enough”.

Does the same principle apply in case of ghusl or for ghusl one must remove nail polish?

    JazakAllah

Yes, same for ghusul. This permission is time limited. if one is at home and at ease, it is for one day and night and if on journey etc it could last for three days and nights.

      JazakAllah for the reply brother.

How have we arrived to this time conclusion?

Is it inferred from a Mashrooh Sunnah or is it a guidance of prophet PBUH via a Hadith of prophet PBUH?

It is inference on the basis of Masah on socks. Once the feet are washed and you wear socks on them, for next wudu you simply run a wet hand on them instead of washing

Oh yup that makes sense. JazakAllah

      Brother,

While we are on the topic of Masah.

There is a conflicting opinion within different fiqh regarding which type of sock is allowed to do Masah on.

      1. Masah can only be done on leather socks

      2. Masah can only be done on socks through which air can not pass

      3. Any sock is fine weather thick or thin.

Which opinion do you agree with in this regards?

The purpose of Masah was to provide ease to the one who is wearing socks. It makes no sense that ease should be provided to the one only who is wearing leather socks and no to the other one who is wearing socks of some other stuff.

      Fair logical reason.

      JazakAllah brother.

      Assalamoalaikum @Irfan76

Just another follow up question regarding “Masah over the socks”.

If one completes a wadoo via Masah over the socks and then later takes the socks off. Does he still keep wadoo that he completed via Masah over socks or wadoo invalidates due to removal or socks?

One need to wash one’s feel then, since the feet are not washed under the socks and the ease given for wearing socks is no more.

      Ok.

So can I assume if socks are taken off, it is better to redo the vadoo?

it is necessary to wash feel then, if rest of the wudu is still intact.

      Assalamoalaikum Brother,

      Just a follow up question.

How many times can we do Massa over socks in a day if we are at home or in 3 days while in a journey?

Is there a restriction on number of times one does wadoo via massa over socks?

  • Dr. Irfan Shahzad

No restriction of the number of masah, but of days only.
