Can Government Stop The Spread Of Pornography?
As’salamualaikum,
My question is –
We have 5 aspects which are haram in quran, top of the list is Vulgarity/Indecency/Fornication etc
V/S
We have liberty and government should not do moral policing.
Then people will misuse liberty and people are allowed to do whatever they want and this is exact reason all types of porn, nudity, fornication and adultery are allowed in western democracies and spreading through the internet.
If government have placed restrictions on pornography/nudity then this flood of fahashi would not be spread everywhere across the globe.
Discussion 1506 – Ghamidi sahab agrees that this is a fitna then why it should not be stopped at government level ?

As long as it can be established that any act infringes upon the fundamental rights of others then a government can step in and legislate within that domain. The issue is not whether a government should or should not stop something. The issue with any legislation is whether or not a government can sufficiently establish their case within the boundaries that they are allowed to function under. If they can then they should make laws to stop an action that is deemed harmful for the society.
