There is a story in Quran where a few men were ready to harvest the bountiful dates crop and the orchard was destroyed overnight because they forgot to say InshaAllah.

The confusion is that the orchard was actually destroyed by Allah’s will. If they had said InshaAllah the outcome would have been the same because it was Allah’s will to destroy the orchard.

Perhaps you refer to the verses: 68: 17-32.

Here the mention of Insha Allah is not telling the cause of destruction, but their being neglecful of God that they in their vow they did not bother to say Insha Allah. It does not say that since they did not say those words, that was why there were destroyed.

They were not just harvesting, they wanted to avoid poor people who might come to beg. They were destroyed for thier ingrateful attitude.
