To love the beauties of the world is not wrong, rather desirable as all the beauties as told by God in the Quran, are created for the believers.

“Ask them [O God’s Messenger]: Who has forbidden you the adornments of the Almighty which He had created for His servants, and who has forbidden the wholesome among the edibles? [336] Tell them: They are for the believers also even in this world [but God has also given the disbelievers a share in them]; [337] and on the Day of Judgement, they shall be theirs alone. [The disbelievers shall have no share in them.] Thus do We explain Our revelations for those who want to know.” (7: 32)

However, if one starts preferring his worldly desired to demands of his religion and faith, now he is guilty of being neglectful of God and the Day of Judgement.

@Irfan76 bhai, please correct me if i am wrong.

If a person does all the farz, wajib and sunnah acts on time and not like doing optional acts of worship then he will not be guilty of loving dunya, right ?

Even if he fulfills only Farz (wajib is not a separate category with us), and consider halal as halal and haram as haram, he is a good Muslim. To love the beauty of the world is no sin, rather required, but to prefer it by violating a religious command or requirement, is condemnable.

How should we understand below statements which are often quoted by religious leaders even if person is performing all his farz.

    1. ” We should think more about Aakhira (Life after death) than about Dunya (worldly life) “

    2. ” Love of dunya and Love of Aakhira cannot stay in one heart, hence its better to pursue aakhirah then to pursue worldly matters like trying to get better in one’s job, earning high salary, getting best house, world tours etc. because these things will end with a person’s death.

    Assalamualaikum

It’s all about priorities. We just make akhirah priority on this world. They both are not against each other. They both in fact are related to each other and their concept works in harmony.

Like by preferring Akhirah on this world I only mean two things :

    1) We won’t do anything immoral or against human values to gain this world. This will protect us from negative results in Aakhirah.

    2) Ideally, we should work more and more hard to achieve this world in order to secure higher ranks in hereafter! This means the more we’ll indulge in this world with our full capacity without engaging in any immoral activity the more we’ll have better hereafter! This may seem quite different statement from our normal religious belief systems but that is what I have found to be true until now. Anyways, our moderators will explain this much better …

Dunya when used in its negative connotation means such love or priority for worldly affairs which go against Islam and ethics. Otherwise God ask us to adopt the beauties of the world that He has created for his people. See the following verse

Ask them [O God’s Messenger]: Who has forbidden you the adornments of the Almighty which He had created for His servants, and who has forbidden the wholesome among the edibles? [336] Tell them: They are for the believers also even in this world [but God has also given the disbelievers a share in them]; [337] and on the Day of Judgement, they shall be theirs alone. [The disbelievers shall have no share in them.] Thus do We explain Our revelations for those who want to know. (7:32)

    Hadith

    Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d:

I heard Ibn Az-Zubair who was on the pulpit at Mecca, delivering a sermon, saying, “O men! The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say, “If the son of Adam were given a valley full of gold, he would love to have a second one; and if he were given the second one, he would love to have a third, for nothing fills the belly of Adam’s son except dust. And Allah forgives he who repents to Him.” Ubai said, “We considered this as a saying from the Qur’an till the Sura (beginning with) ‘The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you..’ (102:1) was revealed.”

    Sahih

    Sahih al-Bukhari, 6438

    In-Book Reference: Book 81, Hadith 27

USC-MSA web (English) reference: Vol. 8, Book 76, Hadith 446 (deprecated numbering scheme)

    -‐—–‐———————————————————-

In the above hadith, Is it wrong to compete in worldly matters even after performing all the farz ordered by allah

    or

Is this hadith warning about neglecting faraiz while competing with others.

of course not, Allah has allowed doing business even during Hajj, see the following verse:

“And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass – (27) That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals.” (22: 26-27)

But this is on the condition that it should not be the primary goal of the pilgrim.

Allah has allowed doing business before and after the Friday prayer. see the verse:

O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu’ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew. (9) And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.” (62: 8-9)

Worldly affairs become condemnable only when they become a priority against Deen and its injunctions. otherwise, God has named the worldly wealth as Khair (goodness)

How to understand below hadith ? In this prophet does’nt want to be reminded of dunya.

Aisha reported: We had a curtain that had pictures of birds upon it. Whenever a visitor entered, he would find them in front of him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me, “Change this, for every time I enter I am reminded of the worldly life.”

In another narration, Aisha said, “I cut it and made it into two pillows. The Prophet would recline upon them.”

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

PS: if there is any questions series on the topic of love of dunya. Please let me know.

Adornments or decoration is allowed. It was at a time when financial conditions of Madina was not good, the prophet had adopted living of a poor man. So he discourged any such thing which may lead to luxuries.
