    Assalamualaikum

As a result of Itmam e Hujjah,Sahaba RA intended to conquer only those lands which were said by Rasool SAW. But in history books we get to read that e.g Umar RA said that “i wish there would be an ocean of fire between the place we intend to conquer and the place we don’t intend to conquer” (as i have understood it from the passages that Ammar Khan Nasir collected in his book Jihad ka mutalia e.g page 76). But why such big words for that thing? How sensitive was that they can’t go further (as it was also a norm to conquer some land just as that)?

In the time of Hazrat Umar, those prescribed lands had been conquered, which was why Hazrat Umar did not want to go further and wished to end the war. To conquer lands for just expansion was never the agenda of the righteous companions.
