Is Asking God For The Goodness In This World Wrong?
As’salamualaikum,
Is it wrong to approach Allah (swt) for worldly needs and during hardship. Usually people don’t remember Allah when all is going well.
Will it be categorized as shirk as it was not due to worship but due to selfish human needs.

No it is not wrong to ask God for anything in this world or the hereafter. In fact it is recommended that we do so.
Polytheism (shirk) constitutes assuming someone to be from the person of God, God to be from some other person, or to assume that God has taken partners in running the system of His creation.

What about this verse in quran – (45:23)
Have you seen the one who has chosen his desires as his lord? God has knowingly caused him to go astray, sealed his ears and heart and veiled his vision. Who besides God can guide him? Will they, then, not take heed?

That verse deals with the rebellious behavior of those who insist upon following their own desires against God. It has nothing to do with the question in this discussion.
