Paragraphs are in addition to the verse numbers.
Can you please share the screenshot if it is something else that you are referring to.

Member December 10, 2022 at 5:50 pmSalam, please below the screen shot from Ghamidi app. There are no verse numbers in Arabic, only paragraph numbers. And the “go to paragraph” or “go to verse” does not work. How to make this work or you are aware of the problem?
Please let me know if there is another Arabic Quran app.
Thanks!
Tauseef

Member December 10, 2022 at 10:08 pmThanks, that worked! It resolved both issues with my app.
By the way, what’s the difference or significance of verse and paragraph numbers? Is this something new or previous exegetes have done that?

Moderator December 12, 2022 at 4:47 pmParagraphs are introduced first time by Farahi School. Division of Surahs in paragraphs is done with due regard to coherence in Quran. Each surah has a theme round which its contents revolve and make it into a unified whole. Together with the main text of a surah, there is an introduction and a conclusion. The content of a surah in some cases can be divided into sections and paragraphs, and in other cases only in paragraphs. Paragraphs depict small shifts in the subject and sections depict greater shifts in it. The verses of the introduction and of the conclusion also may at times be divided into paragraphs as per the subject they discuss. These paragraphs and these sections relate to each other not through a verse to verse linear connection but through various literary devices like parables, comparison or parallelism as well as through statements and passages which are conditional, parenthetical, inferential, modifying, cyclic or which signify corollaries, conclusions, questions or answers. This of course is not an exhaustive list. The text of a surah progresses through these paragraphs and sections and gradually reaches its culmination. As a result, the surah assumes a distinct and unique form and shape, and becomes a complete and independent whole.
