    Assalamualaikum

    From 22.50 to 23.10

Ghamidi sahab said that government doesn’t have any right to take any tax by force but it was a right of God only that He could take tax (Zakat) from us.

First, from where does he say that it is a right of God only?

Secondly, when he gives his evidence that it’s a right of God only then to understand the wisdom of that injunction then if today all the governments start to say that you can give from your own money how much you want then whole system of government collapses?

Thirdly, the Zakat would be used for running the system of government then how would it be specified that which comes under government and which don’t. For example some governments take the responsibility of education, health, free libraries and many more like scandinavian countries while some don’t (and those who take, they have their rationale behind that). So if they all get the same tax but some gives more facilities than others then how is he gonna work?

What Ghamidi sahab is commenting upon in the referenced video is a logical conclusion based upon moral principles.

Firstly, there are no moral grounds upon which a man who is born free on God’s earth be forced to pay a certain portion of his earnings to a government. Secondly, there is no scale to determine how much tax a government can morally take from its citizens. Finally, there is no moral criterion to determine what purposes such tax money can be spent on by any government.

Since we know that governments require money for their operations as well as in providing facilities for their citizens, God has instituted a system of Zakat with all the pertinent details that humans otherwise had no moral authority to establish. For citizens, Zakat has been established by God as a form of worship, while for the governments it has been established as a right that they can forcefully implement.
