    أَفَلَا یَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِبِلِ كَیۡفَ خُلِقَتۡ﴿ ١٧ ﴾

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

    Do they not ever reflect on camels—how they were ˹masterfully˺ created;

    Al-Ghashiyah, Ayah 17

    وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ كَیۡفَ رُفِعَتۡ﴿ ١٨ ﴾

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

    and the sky—how it was raised ˹high˺;

    Al-Ghashiyah, Ayah 18

    وَإِلَى ٱلۡجِبَالِ كَیۡفَ نُصِبَتۡ﴿ ١٩ ﴾

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

    and the mountains—how they were firmly set up;

    Al-Ghashiyah, Ayah 19

    Why are all these realities that were true and present at Prophet S.A.W time being referred to in a past tense?

    What other tense can be used to tell about such realities ?

      Present tense, like the mountains how they ‘are’ firmly set up.

      Why does it refer to them in the past when they are actually in front of the people?

    The tense used in Arabic gives the sense of the perfect tense. The use of past tense is the most suitable here, that these things were made in the past and still exist.
