    As’salamualaykum,

Certain people always mention that the culture of arabia at the time prophet muhammad sws was the best era on earth and we should try to emulate it as much as we can.

Is it morally wrong to admire the western civilization and their advancements or is it a sign of mental slavery to the west ? (Except the 3 points discussed in – Discussion 78387)

Will rasulallah (sws) dislike a person on day of judgement if he admires the western civilizations ?

Some examples of admiring the western civilization are:

    1. Admiring the technologies they have created

    2. Admiring their objective and scientific methods of learning

    3. Admiring their dresses like suits, modest jeans, modest T-shirts, shirts etc

    4. Their brands of watches, bikes, cars etc

    5. Their straightforwardness

    6. Kind heartedness of western people etc

    Jazakallahu khairaa

In such matters, religion objects only when there is a moral problem. The question should be that what kind of moral problem do you see in admiring these things as mentioned above? We should however be very careful when attributing something to religion when there is no basis avaibale to substantiate such statements – like “Certain people always mention that the culture of arabia at the time prophet muhammad sws was the best era on earth and we should try to emulate it as much as we can“. This can become a major sin when something new is added to religion.

My apologies, I should have put the references in my question itself. These people substantiate from a combination of quran verse

    Verse 59:7 –

Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids you from, leave it. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment.

The verse cited above has to do with matters of religion, not with matters of custom.

As far as the hadith is concerned, when we read the whole text, it becomes clear that this hadith is talking about ethical depravation that will increase with passing generations.

The verse you cited is about the religous matters. To admire a good thing in others is a demand of the sense of justice and God has obliged us to stand for justice whether it goes against our ownself or our relatives etc.

It is only the morality which is the subject of relgion. We cannot admire something immoral. What that is not immoral and a good thing in itself, one should admire it. There is nothing wrong in it.

There is no question in this matter of having or adopting a similarity with the non-Muslims. The forbidden similarity is, again, in the matters of religion, not in cultural or social or technological things.
