I have Hindu friends who touch each other’s parents feet when they meet. I refrain from doing so thinking bowing down is only allowed in front of Allah. To be respectful, I join hands to say Namaste!

For Muslims, it is not recommended to bow down to lower one’s back in front of someone. Secondly, Muslims are not allowed to replace the sunnah of the prophets with other words like Namasaty when greeting with Salam is prescribed. You can say salam to them. it is a prayer for peace and can be extended to non-Muslims.
