  • Currency For The Fidya For Fasts

    Asalam u alaikum!

I need to give Fidya for my daughter who is on medication and cannot fast.

The person who will be given Fidya is in Pakistan and will be fasting for her whereas my daughter is in UK.

My question is how to calculate Fidya whether on the basis of Pakistan or UK?

    JazakaAllah

If someone was unable to perform obligatory fasting because of some illness and sickness, it is obligatory for them to keep their left over fasts as soon as they recover from that sickness. However, if the sickness is of permanent nature, then one can pay fidya for their left over fasts. The fidya for one fast is meal for one day given to a deserving individual. However, there is no concept of fasting on someone else’s behalf – in case of permanent illness, paying of fidya would suffice for the individual.

One can feed destitutes of any country but paying in one’s own currency where a person resides seems more in-line with the spirit of the directive because fidya is an amount equal to one day meal i.e. what a person eats himself.

    Thanks for your detailed reply.

Can the Fidya be paid to more than one individual?
