  • Can Fidya For Fasting Be Given To A Non-muslim Organization

If one cannot fast due to health reasons, can they donate money or dry pantry items for 30 meals or more, to a non Muslim organization (if they live in the west) like three squares for children or any other organization?

    Kindly clarify. Thank you.

If someone was unable to perform obligatory fasting because of some illness and sickness, it is obligatory for them to keep their left over fasts as soon as they recover from that sickness. However, if the sickness is of permanent nature, then one can pay fidya for their left over fasts. The fidya for one fast is meal for one day given to a deserving individual (an amount equal to what a person eats himself).

The amount can be given to any well-reputed organization as well which feeds the deserving and the destitute.
