    Does Period Break Fast?

    Assalamoalaikum Brothers,

    If a lady gets monthly periods before aftaari, does the fast break or can she complete the fast?

    Some scholars suggest, it is haram to continue fasting after menstrual cycle begins.

    The start of the menstrual cycle breaks the fast whenever it starts. So there is no question to continue a thing that does not exist.

      How is women menstrual cycle different than a man ehtelam (wet dream)? Both are Najasah however one breaks fast and the other does not?

      Please share insight.

    The temporary impurity which can be removed is one thing and the start of the impure period, which cannot be shaken off until it completes is another. It is important to worship when one is pure or can attain purity. To keep fast along with the state of impurity does not go with the spirit of worship. The concession was given to the temporary impurity of ehtalam, but not to the impurity of the menstrual cycle.
