In this video of Ghamidi Sahab from 39:53 to 41:05, it highlights a situation of not having a Niyyah, going to Madinah, staying there a few days and then wearing Ihram for Umrah.

For someone whose intention to visit Saudia is to do Umrah; however, they first want to rest a night/day in Makkah on top of avoiding wearing Ihram from a foreign country airport. Would it be permissible to visit Haram on day 1 and then going out of Miqat to wear Ihram and re-enter Makkah to perform Umrah on day 2 or onwards?
In other words, does one need to be in Ihram even on day 1 if they intend to perform Umrah on day 2?
The confusion arrives because of the ruling of not crossing Miqat without Ihram if your intention is to do Umrah.

If the intention is to perform umra first thing one lands in Saudia, then one should enter miqat with ihram already worn. But if the intention is to perform umra but not immediately, then one can have a stay after landing and then wear ihram at the relevant Miqat near to his location of stay.

Dr. Irfan Shahzad Sahab ( @Irfan76 ) can also add his scholarly insight into this matter.

Thank you so very much, both.

In conclusion, it seems that one can associate the timing of performing Umrah while making the intention even though if your sole purpose of visiting Makkah is Umrah.
