    Assalamoalaikum Brothers,

I have heard statement that when we read Quran – we get Sawab. Is there a reference for this statement?

On a similar note, what about if we just listen without understanding? Is that also an activity which gives “Sawab” like Tarawee. The speed of reading is so fast that it is even sometimes difficult for Arabs to comprehend.

It is not like bargaining. Any act of good is to please God. The pleasure of God is the real Sawab, which is demonstrated in terms of the benefits we will receive in the hereafter, and some of these benefits are given in this world too whatever and whenever God wills.

To read Quran should have the intention to understand it. If there is no intention to understand it ever, just reading and listening is not a worthwhile activity. The purpose is revealing Quran is fulfilled.

JazakAllah for a quick and concise answer. Logically makes sense what you said.

What about in the instance when “One” has read Tarjummah and Tafseer once or couple of times then later “One” just listens or reads Quran without understanding – just for Sawab?

As you may have heard, there are various sets of Surah to which various blessings of hereafter are attached – just by reading them at particular times. For instance Surah Mulk and Sajda before sleeping, Yaseen, Waqia and Rahman in morning, reading of Surah Kahf on Friday etc. there is a list.

Understanding Quran means understanding its message whatever it is. Most of the time it is Inzaar, Which is simple, you need not ponder upon it and it reaches your heart, some other times it is about Sharia and Fiqh ul Quran, which needs more attention to understand in a technical way. Still, the Quran never loses its inzaar. So when we read Quran which we have already understood it affects us in other ways.
