  • What Is The Concept Of Eid?

    Assallam u alaikum ,

my question is that what is the concept of Eid in Islam? is celebrating Eid an ibadah? or celebrating (meeting friends, congratulating, invitations) just a natural response of human to the fact that a day is blessed by Allah etc. for example Allah has made clothes, we has humans when we see clothes, we naturally tend to wear those clothes and adorn ourself with it. but adorning oneself with clothes, in and of itself as a base act is not ibadat, but a natural response to clothes. just like a one of the natural responses of seeing a herbivore animal is eating it.

for example, someone who did get-together of family in his house a few times before. now in one Eid he does not feel like doing it because he’s tired or not in mood. but he realizes that if he does not arrange a party of Eid in his house then his relatives might feel upset or think low of him like he’s being miser now. so then he again decides to hold a party on the day of Eid but not for sake of like celebrating it but to make his relatives satisfied or to get his relative not think of him bad that he is a miser. so would such behavior be allowed? because if doing celebrating acts on Eid is, in itself, an ibadah then it cannot be done with such intentions. just as namaz cannot be done with intention to satisfy others and make them happy etc

“Both these festivals were originated by the Prophet (sws) at the behest of the Almighty. Before the advent of Islam in Arabia, we find mention of ‘id festivals as يَوْم السَّبْع (yawm al-sab‘) and يُوْم السَّبَاسَبْ (yawm al-sabasab) and as well as of some others among the Idolaters of Arabia. The shari‘ah of the Israelites had ‘id festivals as well but as is evident from the Old Testament and other scriptures, these festivals related more to commemorating certain days of their history. In the last shari‘ah also, the Almighty fixed the above mentioned two ‘id festivals for man and associated them with two great manifestations of piety and submission to the Almighty.” (Meezan)

It is a way to show our gratitude to God.
