    Asselamu aleykum,

In this video, Dr. Shehzad Saleem (ha) said that, because of having tattoos in the skin, The water would not reach the skin, so one should do wudu and then have the tattoos. My question is that, if one had the tattoos on their sin, without wudu. Does that mean their wudu is invalid forever, now?

    Kindly clarify

This ijtihad of Dr. Shehzad saleem Sahab is in line with Ghamidi Shaab’s ijtihad on Nail polish issue (See: Discussion 38681 • Reply 38747) under the assumption that tattoos create a hard external layer on the body just like nail polish and are actually water proof e.g. like stickers. That is why, to counter this point, the Masah application has been considered more appropriate. But this is only when someone has not already drawn the tattoos on their body becasue once done, they are not easy to remove. Therefore in those circumstances, considering the principle of hardship religion (‘usar‘) and concession and ease in hardship, simple wuzu and/ghusl over apparent body parts would suffice.
