    Asselamu aleykum,

    About slavery, Ustad-e-Mohtaram Javed Ahmad Ghamidi Sb. (ha) said that Islam’s mission was to abolish slavery, but it was not possible at that times, because, the abrupt order could make them homeless. I’ve watched one video of Ustad-e-Mohtaram (ha) about Hz. Maria al-Qibtiyya (ra) [provided below], in which he said that Prophet (sav) kept Maria (ra) as his slaves, because, he wanted to set an example for others regarding the treatment of slaves.
    But there is a hadith, narrated by Ibn Abbas (ra), that;

    “Mention was made of the mother of Ibrahim in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he said: ‘Her son set her free.’” (Ibn Majah 2516)

    What is the context of this hadith in which prophet (sav) said that her son set her free. Instead of saying that, Allah does not like slavery.

    Kindly clarify.

    This is an extremely weak narration. One narrator Hussain bin Abdullah in this chain is Matruk (Abandoned for Hadith purposes). It was narrated by Ibn Majah and al-Hakim with a weak chain of transmission, and one group preferred its transmission to Sayyiduna Umar (rta) (as his saying instead).

    However, when seen in the light of another weak narration of Ibn-e-Maja 2515 (https://sunnah.com/ibnmajah:2515) on a simialr topic, it becomes clear that if Prophet (sws) ever said something like this, it was also to raise standards of slaves in the society by encouraging Muslims that after giving birth to their child, the slave-girl earns the right to be free after the death of the owner.
