How Can A Man Know What Comes From Sunnah And What Does Not
Assallam u alaikum, my question is
how can a person know that why directed or any prohibition comes from Sunnah and which one comes from hadith. I mean if it only comes from hadith then this new prohibition may not be the a new prohibition but rather application of any independent prohibition behind it. but if some prohibition like marital relations between husband and wife during menses, as we know that this is an independent prohibition then if a hadith about it’s prohibition is also found, there’s no problem in accepting the hadith as a prohibition of marital relations during menses. but for example if wearing silk is seen, then we say the prohibition only comes from hadith hence it cannot be an independent prohibition. now coming to the question that how can we distinguish or what evidence can we look at to confirmly say which thing is from Sunnah and which is not? like for example the time we live in many many almost majority people say music is Haram, they also say coitus during menses is Haram, they also painting of lively things is Haram and praying in prohibited times is Haram. but we say that 2 of those things (coitus and praying at prohibited times) is prohibited independently. but music and imagery is not. so how do we distinguish in this time that which prohibition among the things perceived as prohibition by majority of people in our times, is independent and which is not?
