Is Marijuana Haram Despite Its Good Effects?

Moderator August 29, 2023 at 12:28 pmIf anything causes intoxication, regardless of the quantity consumed, it cannot be considered as permissible in Islam. In my understanding, marijuana does fall into the category of intoxicants therefore it is considered haram.

Moderator August 30, 2023 at 3:15 pmThose words are not mentioned in the response above or words from the Quran so I am not sure about the context of your question. However, as explained earlier, the prohibition is for any substance that causes intoxication.

There are also withdrawal symptoms from overuse, leading to irritability, anger, high heart rate, etc., all of which are contrary to its ‘calming affect’. Marijuana also harms brain development, which continues into one’s mid to late twenties. It’s a misconception that marijuana is something ‘good’.
