Giving Extra, Unintended Value In Graphic Design Contests
Aoa, there are graphic design contests set on freelancing websites where a client writes a description of the requirements of the final product and then multiple graphic designers join the contest, present their designs and wait for the client to choose a winner among them.
If one strives to fulfill those requirements + add extra value that was not asked for to increase chances of winning, is this unfair to others participating if the client chooses the person because he was providing more than what was asked for in the contest?
For example, the client asked in the contest description to improve the colors and fonts of his website but a freelancer, apart from doing that, changes the overall structure of the design as well to increase chances of winning. This way, that freelancer’s design becomes an anomaly because the client, although will judge based on colors and fonts but that design can’t be compared to other designs in the same sense as it was intended in the contest description. The freelancer might have done a good job to fulfil the requirements but because he made his design an anomaly by doing extra, the client will most likely choose his design over the others. While everyone else might just be competing based on fonts and colors.
What is your take on this? Is this unfair / violating others’ rights / haq talfi? from both the freelancer and client’s part

The client gave instructions to change fonts and colors but then chose a winner based on the extra value he provided although he did considerably good job for choosing fonts and colors but it is the extra work that gave him the edge while other freelancers thought the judgement is based on choosing colors and fonts only otherwise they would have also done extra work. And the winning freelancer’s intention was also to get an edge over the others because he might not be able to win on the specified task alone
