Sunnah Extraction From Historical Narrations (Adhan In Newborn's Ear)
Assalamualaikum!
Ghamidi Saheb excludes the tradition of giving Azaan in a newborn’s ear from his given list of Sunnah. According to him, if we look at the content of the earlier centuries, then it becomes clear that this way adopted later and was never given as Sunnah (i.e mass transmission).
My question is, if the principle of inclusion and exclusion ‘of what should be there in the category of Sunnah’ is based upon what we can extract from the written stuff of the earlier centuries, then does that not make Sunnah also dependant on narrations?
Because in the end, we are getting help in making the list of Sunnah from the written work of early times.
And what if there was nothing available to verify that? (We would end understanding much stuff as Sunnah that God knows whether it should be there or not).

It starts with the present knowledge of the people of knowledge. They never agreed that adhan in the newborn ear is not an established Sunnah. Then we need to investigate, otherwise, the consensus of the whole people of knowledge solely confirms that a certain act is an established sunnah.
A nation may lose an established sunnah as is the case with Jews, but cannot add an act as consensus, perpetual sunnah. The knowledge of the nation can never agreed upon its status.
The established Sunnah is after all a tradition that should have its history. This history is then presented in support, not mainly, of establishing academically beyond any doubt that a certain act is sunnah and if it is not in case the scholars disagree, then it is proved that it is not.

So there are people other than Ghamidi Saheb also in our era that say that this (act of saying Azaan) is not Sunnah?
Actually, I’m completely unaware of this. I thought everybody agrees on it.
