Can We Offer One Rakah Of Witr Salah?

Witr Salah is not any separate Salah but is part of Tahajjud Salah. Tahajjud Salah is supposed to be ended in odd Rakahs, that is why it is also called Witr Salah. Therefore, there is no such thing as one Witr.

1 witr was supported by the acts and sayings of the Hazrat Muawiya(R.A), Hazrat Saad Bin Abi Waqas (R.A) and Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari(R.A).

  We do not agree with ijtihad of these Sahaba (if correctly reported) because the Mutawatir Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (sws) does not support independent status of one Witr. We agree with the response given by Imam Malik in this regard:
  
  Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Sad ibn Abi Waqqas used to pray witr after isha with one rakah.
  
  Malik said, “This is not the situation with us. Rather three is the minimum for witr.”
