  • Why Didn't Prophet Muhammad (sws) Interpret His Dream On Return Of Jesus (sws)

    Assalamualaikum!

Why didn’t Rasoolullah (SAW) himself make a tabeer/explanation about his dream where Hazrat Isa (AS) informs about his second coming? (Since the tabeer seems extremely different than the actual dream).

Isa never informed about his second coming in the dream of the prophet.

Many things are left for the deliberation of the people to exercise their reasoning. The same is done in Shariah and this is thing has nothing to do with Deen or Shariah. It is an additional information. But people feel more interested in such things.

Have you watched the last part (Zameemah) of Nuzool e Maseeh from 23 questions series?

Doing interpretation of a dream is discretion of Prophet Muhammad (SWS). There is no obligation on Him to do such interpretations. We find that Prophet (sws) did interpretation of some of his dreams while he did not do any such interpretation for others. Some examples where Prophet Muhammad (sws) choose not to do any interpretation of his dreams:

1). Regarding the hole in the wall of Gog Magog (Yajooj Majooj) despite it was clear in the narration that Prophet (sws) saw this in a dream (See: https://sunnah.com/muslim:2880a)

2). Regarding first Incident where chest of Prophet (sws) was opened and cleansed. It is clear from the content that it must be a dream as well. See: شق صدر کا پہلا واقعہ

3). Regarding second Incident where chest of Prophet (sws) was opened and cleansed. It is clear that Prophet Muhammad (Sws) was in a state of sleep. See: اسرا کی رات نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے شق صدر کا واقعہ

These were just a few examples right off the top of my head, several other examples could be presented in this regard.

Same is the case with this narration on apparent descent of Prophet Jesus (sws) in his own words. Once we have established it to be Roiya, then it flows logically that it is something bound to be interpreted. Ibn-e-Maja has also adopted this narration which can be read at the following link: https://sunnah.com/ibnmajah:4081. (The translation of some sentences could be improved as it seems to be influenced by preconceived notions regarding return of prophet Jesus (Sws))
