Sadqa-i-Jaria (Esaal-e-Sawab) is not an absolute thing, it is subject to the person’s intentions (for whom it is being done) and their efforts when they were alive in this world. If the intention was there before the person passed away, then doing of such an act on their behalf will Insha’Allah reap additional rewards for the dead. Had there been no intention or effort to begin with, then there cannot be any reward for the dead, no matter the deeds done on behalf of that person.
(اصول یہ ہے کہ والدین نے اگر اولاد کو نیکی کے کاموں پر لگایا ہے اور انھیں نیک کام کرنے کا کہتے تھے یا انھوں نے نیک کام کی وصیت کی ہے اور اولاد یہ کرتی ہے تو ان کاموں کا اجر والدین کو ملتا ہے۔ لیکن یوں نہیں ہوتا کہ خود سے کوئی نیکی کر کے اپنے طور پر یہ تصور کر لیا جائے کہ ہم چاہیں تو اپنا ثواب دوسرے کو ٹرانسفر کر سکتے ہیں۔)
