    Salam alaikum,

Was reading up a bit more about temple of Solomon and history of that land. Archeological evidence suggests that during the iron age and ancient history, the ancients Israelites and Canaanites were polithiestic people who had a number of gods including El, Asherah, Baal and Yahweh. Over time focus shifted over to the sole worship of Yahweh who became the national God of the kingdoms of Israel and Judea and that Yahweh was the Diety revered at Solomon’s temple.

My question is that is this evidence absolute that those people originally started out with polytheism and became monotheistic over time or does it verify what the Quran pretty much points to that the Israelis were always taught monotheism from prophets and divine sources but had very strong polytheistic tendencies? Plz clarify.

    Pages I read:-

The history of a community that is collectively transmitted from them is accepted. The origin of the Jews is monotheistic. Abraham was their father. The historians, on the other hand, rely on the segments of historical incidents and fill the gaps with their interpretations. The Jews fell into polytheism many a time and all this is recorded by themselves in their books.
