Asma bint Abi Bakr said: We used to cover our faces in front of men. (Narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah, 4/203; al-Hakim, 1/624. He classed it as sahih and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. It was also classed as sahih by al-Albani in Jilbab al-Marah al-Muslimah.)

This is about Hazrat Ayesha on the occasion of Hajj. Since covering the face is forbidden in Hajj and since special directives of the Hijab were ordained for the wives of the prophet, therefore they used to cover their faces occasionally when men passed by. However, other women did not cover their faces.

Sir, why Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (rta) covered her face, when she was not Umm al-Mu’minin. But, a sister of Sayyida Aisha (rta)?

There is no such thing reported in this narration. Secondly, to cover one’s face is not forbidden. However, from other reports about her, it is well established that Hazrat Asma did not cover her face in her entire life.
