    As Salaam O Alaikum,

Brother, in one of the videos, Late Dr. Israr Ahmed, states that we had a life before our birth during ‘Ahd e Alast’ otherwise, without it (life) and full consciousness, how could we have given covenant to Allah. According to understanding of Quran by Ghamidi Sir, how far it is true and if so, does the life after death in this world would then be our third life.

Secondly, he states that apart from the mostly accepted view of the eternity of heaven and hell, hereafter, Quran (40: 11) gives us a hint that hell is not eternal, as advocated by Ibn Tayyimah and Ibn Arabi. He also mentions of the third view that both heaven and hell are not eternal. Please clarify.

    Jazakallah khair

It was a kind of consciousness, one can name it life. but it was not with bodies.

There are hints in the Quran which suggest that Hell is not eternal. See 11: 105-107

When that day arrives, no one shall be able to speak without God’s permission.[233] Then among people, some shall be unfortunate and some fortunate. So, those who are unfortunate shall land in Hell. For them is screaming and crying there. They shall remain there as long as the heavens and the earth [of that world] are intact [235] except if your Lord wills something else. Undoubtedly, your Lord is able to do whatever He wills.

    Ghamidi saheb wirtes:

It is this verse of the Qur’ān on the basis of which it can be expected that one day Hell will cease to exist. The reason is that God’s punishment is a threat and not a promise and the Lord of the heavens and the earth out of His grace certainly has the right to reduce the punishment of the wrongdoers or turn them into dust and ashes and eternally bury them in Hell. The words اِنَّ رَبَّكَ فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيْدُ at the end of the verse refer precisely to this fact.
