Moderator January 31, 2024 at 8:37 amThis practice is more prevalent in Indo-pak Sub-continent where Hanafites are in majority. In the Hanafi school it is preferable to pray Maghrib immediately after the adhan without any delay. Accordign to them, It is makruh to delay it until the time when many stars begin to appear, usually about half an hour after sunset because it has been emphasized in a number of ahadith that Maghrib prayer should be offered after sunset as soon as possible.. That is why Hanafi jurists are of the view that the Maghrib prayer should be offered immediately after adhan without any intervening nafl salah. However, other jurists are of the opinion that it is advisable to offer two rakah nafl salah before the Maghrib prayer.

It is definitely recommended to offer Maghrib Salah early, but the Salah is still valid if offered within its allotted time.
Please see for timings of Salah and recommended timings of Salah:
