And how the third person should reply?

It is neither compulsory on the person being asked to convey their Salam to the third person nor is it compulsory for the third person to respond to this Salam. Salam is a Sunnah which is required to be followed when two people meet eachother.

However, if such correspondence is being done with mutual consensus and with goodwill, then it is a commendable act. But if the person has made a commitment/promise to convey the Salam then they should fulfil their promise by conveying this Salam.
