There is no directive to obey the parents, instead, it is said to be good to them and respect them. However, women are asked to be obedient to their husbands. This obedience is to run domestic affairs smoothly. This obedience is in the matters of mutual interest, the matter of rights and duties to each other. No obedience is in the matters of sin.

Apart from that, a woman is allowed to exercise her freedom in matters of her personal choices, like what food she likes to eat or what kind of clothes she likes to wear, etc. She needs not to sacrifice her personal choices. She has the freedom to accept or reject a suggestion in such matters.

However, a good house is the one where matters are decided with mutual consultation.

    Aoa,

What about a scenario where both husband and wife have careers. The husband without consulting the wife takes the decision to move the family to another country and is now forcing wife to resign because she has to obey him and move. Shouldn’t she be consulted beforehand and arrangements be made for both of them?

A sensible serious person will always consult his wife before making such big decisions. They should reach a compromise. If not then she has choice to accept his wish or leave him.
