It is simple, They have to prove what different variants were in practice in different parts of the world and why in every age when the exegetes wrote Tafsir there was never any record of different variants? They cite different variants which are found in the books of hadith but in the corpus of the Qur’an in the hands.

Do you mean they have to prove what different qiraat where in different parts of the world? I don’t know what you mean by the exegetes writing tafsir not recording variants?

Exegetes in every age when write their exegeses, they cite the same Quran that is in our hands; and the variants they cite are referred to outside of the corpus of the Quran. See for example Tafsir Tabri. If someone claims that Muslims agreed upon the single reading after 1924 he has to nullify the whole literature of tasfir, and fuqaha who cite the Quran and tell the reason that why no one reports that there are variant readings in public. No one is confused in the whole history of Islamic literature that what reading the main corpus of the Quran has, and what variants are found in the books of hadith.
