If one believes Jinns have divine powers and then asks for their help, it is shirk. However, If one does not believe Jinns have power divine powers, but they have some abilities like humans have some abilities, then it is not shirk, but it is futile, as you never know they are around. It is just like calling in the air to no one. Moreover, it leads to shirk, therefore such futile things are disapproved.
