    Asalam o alikum

I was going through this hadees Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Whoever says, ‘Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,’ one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.

My question is that this and many other ahadees tell us to utter certain words for a certain number of times and then it will result in either some sort of reward for a certain number of times or we will be forgiven, are these authentic because for me they do not sound like the words of our Holy Prophet.

This is authentic. The forgiveness mentioned here is about minor sins.

if you keep abstaining from their major sins, We shall erase your minor sins from your account and admit you into a place of honour. (4: 31)

For major sins one is require to make repentance with a promise not to repeat them.

Irfan sb can you please tell the difference between minor and major sins? What comes under minor and major sins. Because we make mistakes every day, intentionally or unintentionally so what if we promise Allah but fail to keep that promise somehow. Thats why im asking.

Major sins are Shirk, murder, adultery, slandering of adultery, false witness, usurping others’ property, etc.

Minor sins are those which cause a little impact. However they may lead to major sins. But if a major sin is not committed the minor sins are forgiven like a minor lie, a inappropriate gazing etc.

The term Qur’an used is Hudud Allah to tell that there violation is transgressing the boundaries drowned by God. The amount of punishment and intensity of displeasure of God shown determine that a violation is major violation.

See the verses, 22:30, 24:2, 5: 38, 4:23 ( in the perspective of the law of inheritance in the verse 4: 11-12)
