  • Is Accepting Embryo Donation Allowed?

Posted by Umair Durrani on April 30, 2024 at 8:49 pm

Salam alaikum. I have a question about embryo donation.

Is it allowed for a married muslim woman to accept embryo donation and have a child with it, and raise that child with her husband? In this scenario, the child would know and have an open relationship with the biological parents also. The donor parents my be of any faith.

I’d appreciate your response. Thank you.

This is a violation of the basic right of a child to be raised by his own parents. It is allowed only in the case if the surrogate mother give birth to a child and hand over the child to the actual biological parents.

A woman may act as a surrogate if the biological parents (i.e. the wife) has any genuine problem in giving birth to the child. Surrogacy establishes the same relationship with the child the way it is established in case of milk kinship.

Donating a child/embryo is not allowed in the absence of a very solid reason, infact, it is violation of the basic rights of a child.

Regarding giving up child for adoption (the same applies to donating any earlier form of conception):

Please refer to the video below from 1:32 onward:
